This is sad, but I havent read those books or seen those movies. Supernatural is a good show when I get time to watch it, and I love Mummer’s Dance by Loreena McKennitt!
I’ve missed a lot of this past season of Supernatural – I need to rent the season DVDs. And I wish they’d come out with a soundtrack!
I just discovered your blog and it looks like we enjoy a lot of the same books and authors (I love Helene Hanff…I’ve read all of her books). I plan to sign up for your Armchair Traveler Challenge…I just have to choose which books I want to read!
Hurrah, another Helene fan! My favorite of hers is Underfoot in Show Business, but that’s a slight distinction as I love them all. I’d LOVE to get my hands on the out-of-print book that details all the books she had in her personal library. But alas, no luck yet.
I just discovered your site……its’ strange reading your list as I’ve read most of the books too, and seen most of the movies too! I can’t join the Amchair traveler Challenge (work, kids, I found this site too late for this year’s challenge) but I so LOVE the idea!!! Your RIP2 looks good too……I was just discussing with my husband that I need some new books soon, cause I’m running through the ones on my shelves and now I have your site to share books with! and when you get to Canada for bookwormz, please let me know so I can add a few independent bookstores from here in Ottawa. I don’t have a blog yet, but I’m beginning to think it’s time…..at least i can talk about books on it! what a lovely idea! Happy reading!
You should be able to get plenty of reading ideas from the books people have been reading for the challenge – I know I have! We are hoping to open up Bookwormz to Canada soon, so be sure to check back! And if you decide to start a blog, please let me know so I can visit.
Oh my God! You know The Ghost of Opalina! I LOVE The Ghost of Opalina. I feel like I spend half my life wishing for enough spare cash to buy one of those insanely expensive ex-lib copies on the used-book websites. My mum read it to my sisters and me when we were little, and I have never, ever, ever gotten over the wonderfulness of those wee cameo pictures in the margins.
I’m always so excited to meet someone who’s heard of – and inevitably, loved – Opalina! It’s one book that I fervently wish would come back into print. It’s such a wonderful story, and I agree, those cameo pictures were a great part of the book’s charm. I went back to my elementary school library a few years ago (before I knew how much money used copies went for) to ask them if they’d consider letting me have it. Unfortunately, they’d done a complete overhaul of the library and had gotten rid of all their old books. I cringe to think what happened to that copy!
Oh my goodness! For some reason, the Ghost of Opalina has been in my thoughts – perhaps because my own cat of 17 years is ill, but I did a search, and just found out how much those books are going for! I must have read that book 20 times as a child, and like you, would love to see it in print once again. Obviously, I am not shelling out $300 or more for the used version, but goodness, wouldn’t it be a treasure!
It gave me hours of pleasure as a little girl, and I imagined myself as one of the characters in the book!
Love a lot of the same stuff and like a true bibliophile I get a rush adding the new to me one’s to the never ending list of must reads.
